Gender-responsive Arms Control

The project aims to operationalize gender-responsive small arms control activities and generate knowledge on the roles of women in arms trafficking and arms control to increase the effectiveness of arms control measures.

Funders: Germany

The project's overarching goal is to contribute to the reduction of arms-related violence by strengthening the implementation of small arms control measures in selected regions through the integration of a gender perspective. The main objective of the initiative is to increase the effectiveness of arms control measures by:

1. supporting the meaningful inclusion of diverse perspectives in small arms control (operationalization of the Gender Handbook; collaboration with other initiatives); and

2. strengthening the evidence base for gender-responsive arms control by: a) generating policy-relevant knowledge on the role of women in arms trafficking; b) generating policy-relevant knowledge on the role of women in arms control (Small Arms Survey Report based on fieldwork in Ukraine and West Africa); and c) improving gender-disaggregated data for arms control purposes.
