The Small Arms Survey supports the work of the International Code of Conduct Association (ICoCA) by providing guidance on the implementation of the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers, especially paragraphs 56-62 which pertain to weapons, ammunition and material of war. For example, in 2022, the Survey developed indicators that provide pathways for PSCs wishing to enhance their capacities and regulatory compliance in the areas of weapons training, the management of weapons, and the management of material of war. These indicators also provide the framework for PSCs to reach affiliate, transitional membership and certified membership status in ICoCA.
The Survey's current activities centre on the development of a guidance manual on the management of weapons and hazardous material of war. The manual is intended as a guidance document, principally for ICoCA Member and Affiliate Companies but also of interest to any private security company involved in the management of weapons and/or hazardous material of war. The guidance document will also provide the basis for a training module for ICoCA Member and Affiliate Companies on the management of weapons and hazardous material of war, to be developed during the next phase of the project.
